You don't know what you're doing? Good, otherwise you wouldn't need me!
Here are six easy steps to follow.
1. Register a Domain Name - The domain name is like maxhaynes.com or bobaloo.org. Think of this as your address. If you don't already have one of these then we will register it together at GoDaddy. They are a big, reliable registration company that is also one of the very cheapest. It will cost you $9 a year to register your name. Hopefully the name you want isn't already taken. You can go to GoDaddy and start typing in names and check on this. But do the actual registration with me so I can guide you through the process, I will need to know your username and password to work on your site so keep that in mind.

2. Set Up a Hosting Plan - If the domain name is your address then the hosting plan is the apartment that you attach the address to. This will cost you $4 a month rent. Ah, if only you could live in cyber space! We will do this at the same time as we get the domain name. You are going to need to be able to talk to me and use your computer at the same time. 763-425-8118

3. Decide on a Package - Do you need just need a page or a multipage site? Some things to keep in mind are- a page in cyberspace can be 6 feet long if necessary, well, that might be stretching it but anyway, it can be big. Do you need a logo? This would be a good time to think about how you want your site personalized, what are your favorite colors, do you have an animal or other object that you indentify with? Are there other sites you've seen that you really like and would like me to see? Check the Prices page for costs.

4. Prepare Your Materials - Generally there are two main ingredients for any site-text and art. For text, the best way for me to receive it is in the body of an email. I can also process Word or AppleWorks documents. For art, the best way to get it is on a CD through the mail unless you have very little and then perhaps you'll be able to email it to me as an attachment. I prefer to get art, (photos, artwork, graphs, stuff like that) as TIFF files or high quality JPEGS at 300 dpi, that way I can reduce them down to the size they will be used at and optimize them myself. If you have slides or other documents that are not computer files you can take them to a place like Kinkos and have them made into files. I can do it for you as well for an additional fee, I charge $50 an hour. Then mail all to me-

5. Create a Game Plan - How many pages do you need and what should they be? Some common pages would be- Home, Contact, Bio, Portfolio, Links. There are any number of choices or selections however. You may want to put together a site on paper telling me which images and text go on what pages, that will help me get a working view of the site up and running and then we can tweak it from there. Mail this plan with the CD.

6. Approve the site - As the site develops you will be able to watch it grow and change and you can direct me and help me with choices to make the site just right for your needs. The site can be up for all to see during construction or it can be hidden from public view, your choice. When the site is complete I will finish off by making it optimized for search engines. Once the site is complete, if you have changes to make in the future you can engage me at $50 an hour or have someone else work on the site, it's yours to do with as you wish.

You can always call me with questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
